Sterling sat at the cliffs. Her dawn colored hair fell over her shoulders. It was her 14th birthday and no one had even bothered saying happy birthday. Not even Kevin.

I walked along the side of the cliff, my small Pheonix, Ignis trailing quickly behind me. I looked over my shoulder and scolded, "Ignis! I told you not to catch the grass on fire!" I sighed and quickly smothered it with my jacket and glared at him. "Waita go... You're lucky I don't have the heart to throw you in the ocean," I replied, narrowing my eyes at him. Ignis screeched at me and purposely sneezed on me. "Dang bird.." I muttered, continuing along.

Sterling heard the commotion and turned her head towards the noise. Her bangs fell in her eyes. She shook her head slightly and returned her gaze to the peaceful ocean.

I noticed a girl sitting at the edge of the cliff and walked towards her. "Hello," I said softly, as not to startle her. Ignis pecked at my ankles but I poked his head, making him stop.

Sterling looked at him. Her eyes observed him. "Hi..." she replied, her voice gentle and kind.

I smiled as I sat next to her, pushing Ignis away when he tried to get in my lap. I glared at him and said, "Ignore him..."

Sterling smiled also and looked at Ignis. "Cool phoenix..." she said, rather fascinated.

"Thanks," I said as I stroked the top of his head. He seemed to make a sound close to purring I shook my head, "I got him a pet store, thinking he was a parrot. That was until I discovered I'm a demi-god. Then, I figured out he's just a young Pheonix."

Sterling sighed. "Yeah... I got a hellhound from the pet store thinking it was a labrador retriever... Then he turned on me and I had to get rid of him..." she said. A cool breeze stung her skin and she sighed.

"I'm sorry," I whispered as I looked at her with a sympathetic gaze. I decided to change the subject as I asked, "So what's your name?"

Sterling shrugged. It happened a long time ago. "My name is Sterling, what's yours?" she asked. It was hard ignoring the fact that it was freezing and she forgot her coat.

"Jaryn," I replied as I noticed that she was shivering. And of course she had forgotten her coat. I took my jacket off and held it out for her to take it, "Go ahead, I have a long-sleeve shirt on."

Sterling smiled slightly. "Thank you... My brother would kill me if he found out I was out in this weather..." she said, taking his coat. Sterling draped it around her shoulders, not really in the mood to have it on all the way.

I nodded as I said, "Yeah, it can get pretty harsh." I blinked to Ignis as he practically made his own personal fire. "Hey, little firebird over there, you wanna share that?" He scowled as he swiped his wing over it, making it grow.

Sterling pulled her hair over to her shoulder. She had been sitting at this cliff since dawn and it was so boring. It felt good to have a bit of company though. Her lips parted as she sighed.
